Poplin Fabric | Types of Cotton Fabrics

Poplin

Poplin fabric, also known as tabinet/pocket fabric/tc fabric/popelina/Dacron, is a plain-weave fabric characterized by its tight weave, smooth texture, and a subtle ribbed surface. Here are some key features of poplin fabric:

  • Weave: Poplin is made with a plain weave, where the warp and weft threads cross over and under each other alternately. This results in a smooth surface with very fine horizontal ribs.
  • Composition: Originally made from silk and wool, modern poplin can be made from various fibers, including cotton, polyester, silk, wool, or blends. Cotton poplin is particularly popular for its comfort and breathability.
  • Texture and Appearance: The fabric has a slight sheen and a crisp feel, making it suitable for both casual and formal garments. It is smooth and lightweight yet durable.
  • Specifications (threads per square inch): 80*38, 88*64, 96*72, 110*76, 133*72, etc., usually used for lining and pocket cloth, also in some areas, the 133x72 fabric is used for making shirts and robes.
  • Uses: Poplin is versatile and used for a wide range of clothing items, such as shirts, dresses, skirts, trousers, and uniforms. It's also used in home textiles like bed linens and tablecloths.
